If your eyes get tired while reading at your computer and you'd like to have a program for your computer that can read text from a text file or even text from your Windows' clipboard, then FreeVoice could be just what you need. This fully functional text-to-speech program uses Microsoft Agents, or animated characters, to read for you and you can use voice commands to control FreeVoice enabling it to launch your programs. The program automatically adds voice commands for all the programs logged on your start menu. You will need a microphone if you wish to use Voice Control.

You must have at least 1 character installed in order to use FreeVoice, and up to 15 characters are available. You can download your characters singly or from within a Character application that provides you with animated characters that speak to you. The essential components you can download free of charge for your FreeVoice program are: Microsoft Agent (the application that displays your characters); Lernaut and Hauspie TruVoice (a text to speech engine that is added to Microsoft Agent and allows your characters to speak); Microsoft Command and Control (allows you to control FreeVoice by voice command and run your programs by speaking out their name); and a Speech Control Panel (allows you to change speech settings). Characters include Merlin (a wizard), Genie (a blue Genie from ancient Persia), Peedy (a green bird), and Robby (a robot). FreeVoice's interface is Windows-styled and includes reminders for your appointments or special dates that your FreeVoice character will read out and remind you of, and a TO DO list that will be read out after a specified duration.
